Problems getting to secure sites through router

Created 05/30/2012 09:39  |   Updated 04/23/2014 07:45

Several DSL modems have router functions and this causes all communication to go through 2 layers of Network Address Translation.
This can cause issues with https sites such as online auction and banking sites.

Ensure the modem is set in bridge mode and is not acting as a router as well.

To do this:

  1. Connect directly to the modem and navigate to [Start] - [Run] - "cmd".
  2. Type in "ipconfig" at the command prompt and press Enter.
  3. If the IP address is in the following range, the modem is acting as a router and it will need to be bridged:

    10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
    172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
    192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255
